January In a Nutshell | Round Up

Happy February, hunzzz.
We’re now far enough into the year that I’ve stopped writing 2015 all.the.time.
January always feels to me like a bit of a trial run, but now 2016 is truly underway. Not sure I like it so far...

Until last week I was holed up in a onesie drowning myself in tea while revising so I can’t say I’ve experienced many products that have filled me with excitement or been worthy of being “Favourites”. Aside from a fabulous few...

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick | Clearly been having a bit of an S&G moment this month. I had this as a free gift along with a few other things before Christmas but I actually thought it was a bit naff. I started wearing it on those "concealer and mascara days" for a pop of colour without being too much. It’s like a lipstick meets gloss in that it’s fairly pigmented for a gloss but too sheer for a lipstick while not being overly sticky. I’m definitely going to pick up a few of the other shades, Purple Rain and Nudist are calling my name!

Black Cord Pinafore | I freakin love this. I wear it with everything, like, all the time. It's just so easy to make it look like you've made an effort and care about looking like a put-together fashion queen when actually... Just no. Not this month. I've especially been loving wearing it over a simple grey roll neck, striped long sleeved top, or a metallic silver t-shirt I picked up in the Topshop christmas sales. Mine is from New Look.

Metallic Nails | When I first started working at Models Own I really liked the Chrome collection – I thought it was really unique and novel, and could give quite an edge to a look. As you can imagine, showing the same shades of the same collection to people all day can make you sick of the sight of them. But I’ve recently rediscovered my love of metallic nails – Rose Gold, Grey, Copper and Olive are my go-to shades right now.

Purple | Seriously. Purple. I can’t get enough of purple. Purple bags, boots, nails, lips, hair. Purple aaaall day. I don’t know where it’s come from as it’s never been a colour I’ve been particular bothered about wearing before but I’m absolutely loving it. Especially a deep or fairly bright purple – something brave or eye catching. Especially my purple fluffy bag.

Making A Murderer | Possibly late on the bandwagon but OH MY ACTUAL GOD. WTF??? I’m not going to give anything away (spoiler people are my #1 pet hate) but you need to watch it ASAP. It’s such an interesting look into the American criminal justice system, police corruption (or not – depending on how you view it) and it's quite stirring. Turning people's GCSES into law degrees from the posts I've seen on my Facebook! I’m tempted to do a write a whole post on Making A Murderer – would anyone be interested in reading that?

Rick & Morty | IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS WATCH IT NOW. Not for the faint hearted at all: the most un-PC cartoon I've ever watched but so witty and clever. Blows The Simpsons, Family Guy and even my precious Bob's Burgers out of the water. We binged watched the whole two seasons in like a day. We are disgusting. (If I fail my exams you know why.

Dirty Grandpa | Our local cinema does £3 tickets for students (and super cheap popcorn hello) so I don't know why we don't utilise it more. Last week we saw Dirty Grandpa as a if-i-dont-get-out-of-the-house-im-going-to-lose-my-mind treat. I haven't laughed that much at a film in quite some time. Stupid, laddy comedy, ridiculous one-liners amd just all round plain crude. PERFECT. And Rob and Zac are looking fiiiine.

Bowie & Blackstar | What can I say. I love Bowie and it broke my heart when he died - I swear I felt the chasm in the music world open the minute I found out. Of course his new album Blackstar was released this month and it (along with the classics) has been loved. I urge you to give it a listen.

Anniversary Celebrations | We don't really make a fuss about things like this, we don't do presents or anything too fancy-pants. We just get a little bit dressed up, a little bit drunk and eat a liiiittle too much tapas in Revolucion de Cuba, as usual, and it was a perfect, lovely night. As usual. (Soppy shoutout to Martin who is almost definitely not reading - love you!)

Being Hydrated | Okay this sounds weird but go with it. I never used to drink much apart from tea and I used to get really dehydrated. It was so unhealthy. I am the worst. For Christmas my mam bought me one of those cup/beaker things with a straw (like this one from my mythical AKA unicorn wishlist). WITH UNICORNS ON IT. It’s encouraged me to drink throughout the day and, while I still don’t drink the “recommended amount” (Who even does? Seriously?) but I’m feeling so much better!

St Fagans Day Trip | Martin and I are rather partial to a day exploring but we decided to stay local and visit an old favourite. If you follow me on Instagram (plz) you might have seen some of my snaps. It was just nice to get out in the fresh air and spend some time together that doesn't involve Bob's Burgers...

Being Exam Free | YAASSSSS. Although, admittedly, I don't feel particularly "free". I actually feel like uni (and all my lecturers simultaneously) have taken a giant shit on my life. But anything is better than revising/failing to revise all day every day, right?

BUT. I can't end a January round up without a mention of the, frankly, terrifying month we have seen in terms of death. Each morning I found myself dreading checking my phone in case someone had died. Of course the celebrities we loved, with Terry Wogan and Colin Vearncombe (if you've never heard of Black make sure you check them out) being the latest tragedies, but also a more personal loss. A beloved family friend passed away this month, way before his time - Bucket, you will be missed massively.
