Why do brands make it so hard to find out whether they test on animals? Especially when they don't test on animals? Like... What? Why is it hard to find out if Primark makeup is cruelty free?
My "Is Topshop Cruelty Free" info post is one of my highest viewed posts, so hopefully it is helping some of you! I thought I'd post my findings on another high street favourite whose cruelty free status is a bit more difficult to verify.
I sent them my standard list of questions (which you should definitely check out and ask to brands if you want to do some investigating of your own), and this is the reply I received:
"Primark
does not conduct and does not commission any animal testing.
Our terms
of trade with our suppliers make it clear that cosmetic products
and
their ingredients
must not be tested on animals. We trust this has answered
your queries and we thank you for taking the time to contact us."
Well that hasn't bloody helped at all. No mention of whether products are sold in China, which is often the deal breaker as testing is illegal in the EU but mandatory in China. So I asked again.

China.
We do not have any Primark stores in China."
Well this didn't make any sense to me at all. What does that mean? No Primark stores in China but outlets? What? So I asked again.
It turns out that the woman I was chatting to made an error and there are no Primark stores OR outlets in China. So I'm happy to say that Primark cosmetics ARE cruelty free! Which is pretty great because it looks like they're really stepping up their make up game!

I really like their lip pencils and found out they are cruelty free last year! I still feel bad shopping there, it's definitely not an ethical store. Clothes should not be that cheap :/
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying it is ethical, but the price has nothing to do with it, most of their manufacturing buildings are sharing spaces in blocks along with many other high street shops that are treating their workers EXACTLY the same way but just upping the cost to us.

DeleteWow I did not know they were cruelty free, I am really surprised I assumed they wouldn't be as they are cheap. Well found out 👍😀 xx

Thank you so much for all of your posts! They have helped me a lot in buying make up products, as well as helping with choosing right products that are cruelty free! Please keep up the good work :D
ReplyDeleteThank you very much I really appreciate it!
DeleteHey so you know whether the makeup products are vegan? Do they contain any animal products? please do let me know
ReplyDeleteHi I'm sorry for the delayed reply! I am not aware of how much of their range is vegan as they didnt and answer that question when put forward to them. This would lead me to believe that they are not but I wouldn't want to say! Sorry about that
DeleteThey are not vegan. Their lipsticks contain cera alba/beeswax. They also have products containing milk and lanolin.
DeleteYay this makes me really bloody happy! I've always held off buying their stuff just in case.
ReplyDeleteYou're right though, why do brands make it so difficult to find out if they test on animals or not?

I also read this where it says primark are cruelty free but I was shocked to find that they produce some of their products in china! Which if I'm correct do still test on animals, but if you ask me they should be testing on humans as there's too many people in China! Anyway I bought some tooth whitening gel there in April 2017 and it clearly states on the back produced in China so that means it is tested on animals am I right here??
ReplyDeleteIronically if a product is produced in China it is exempt from their animal testing laws as that is only mandatory for imported products that have been manufactured elsewhere! I hope that answers your question
DeleteTo unknown, I just came across your comment which states - if you ask me they should be testing on humans as there's too many people in China! and it comes across a s a bit warped and racist. It almost seems that you insinuate that testing products on Chinese people would reduce their population number...very dark and strange! You should really think about how you word things!
DeleteI'm really glad you found out about this.
ReplyDeleteI try to ask brands and they do just give you the same generic messages just skirting on the EU rules to satisfy the qu, but don't really mention anything else regarding their sales in China.
Anyways, very happy about this! I actually really love Primark's makeup, their matte liquid lipsticks and lipliners are fab.
At risk of sounding like an absolute (insert word) they can test everything on the Chinese population! Just dont touch animals!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes Kim Forrest - you do sound like an absolute Racist AND TWAT as well! Why is it ok to test on a particular group of people???? Absurd. It is clear all the people posting on this thread are Caucasian. This is disgusting for this day and age! PRODUCTS SHOULD NOT BE TESTED ON PEOPLE OR ANIMALS.
Deleteon their makeup powder, it said made in China so that really confused me
ReplyDeletePrimark cosmetic not tested on animals but does they contains any animal fat especially lipstics?plz answer me?
ReplyDeleteBeeswax in their lipsticks.
Deleteis there any animal fat in their cleanser?
